Barenaked Ladies, one of Canada’s finest (and funniest!) bands, came to eTown for their very first visit in this especially fun and informative show from 1995; it’s so great, we couldn’t resist sharing in its entirety. Our other musical guest is ethereal singer/songwriter Doug Hoekstra. We’ll also hear from PETA co-founder Alex Pacheco who eloquently discusses the importance of cruelty-free treatment of animals. And our award winner from Wyoming is the cofounder of an organization dedicated to informing the public about how mindless clear-cutting negatively effects the precious Medicine Bow old growth forest. Truly a classic eTown episode you won’t want to miss revisiting!

As we continue to celebrate eTown’s 30 years on the air, we came across this particular episode from the archives that is just too rare to not share in its entirety. American musical icons/legends Pops Staples and Joan Baez share the eTown stage for a magical hour of conversation and song. Plus our eChievement Award story features an organization teaching kids about the importance of coral reefs for the environment, while giving them various opportunities to help protect them.

We’re continuing our creation of shows with highlights from the 30 seasons eTown has been on the air. But once again, while digging into the eTown archives, we came across this episode from 1994 that was just too stellar from start to finish to even consider not re-airing it in its entirety. Guitarist (and bird watcher) extraordinaire Richard Thompson joins us, as does gifted Canadian performer Sarah McLachlan (who was on her very first tour of the US at this time). And we hear from eChievement Award Julie Weier, of Wisconsin, cofounder of The Midwest Renewable Energy Association, which educates the public about energy conservation through a number of yearly events.

We continue to create shows featuring highlights from the 30 seasons eTown has been on the air. More often than not, when we dig into the eTown archives we come across a show that is just too unique to not share in its entirety. This eTown episode, from February of 1993, was originally a fundraising effort for the Nature Conservancy. Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir, Rob Wasserman, Rickie Lee Jones and Leo Kottke are the musical guests; and Bob Weir is the recipient of the eChievement Award, for his continual support of environmental and social causes. Plus, we hear from two environmental collaborators (working with The Nature Conservancy).
